Mountains and Med (Feb 2011)

For half term we headed back to France for a week with famille-Liz. Unfortunately, no time off for Uni students, so we were down to three. :-( The week was split between the mountains and the Med. It's a hard life...

Base camp for the skiing was the Air France chalet in Beuil - only about an hour and a half from chez-Liz, through the magnificent Gorge du Cians. Beuil had easy access to the slopes and was an excellent spot for sledging.

The best skiing was a few kilometres up the road from Beuil in Valberg. It was Laura's first time on skis since Banff in 2003, and she really enjoyed skiing at Liz's slightly more sedate pace. Ventimiglia

The Italian border is only an hour or so from chez-Liz, so Laura and I jumped on the train and headed for Ventimiglia on our first day back from the slopes. The walk up to the Cathedral was steep, but nice to escape the hustle and bustle of the market.

Cannes

Our next day trip took us to Cannes, this time with Mark and Liz. Another splendid day on the Riviera.

Monaco and Cap D'Ail

On our last day Liz drove us to Monaco; brunch at Stars 'N' Bars was the main reason for the trip! We came back on the Basse Corniche (the old coast road), and stopped for a nice walk around Cap d'Ail. I think we've found our holiday home...
